A key factor in our organization's success in providing insurance consulting services to the nation's premier colleges and universities at Hodgkins-Beckley Consulting is our commitment to state-of-the-art technology and confidentiality best practices. This is a particularly sensitive subject for our clients, especially given the highly public reports of email hacking and inadvertent disclosure of social security numbers and other confidential information for students and employees. Our more than 150 diverse clients* have rightfully placed high demands on all of their vendors for electronic security and confidentiality policies and procedures.
A key capability we identified in 2006 was the need to exchange secure messages and documents with our clients and vendors. After thorough research, we could not find a system that was affordable and could meet the needs of both our firm and our clients. The large-scale secure messaging systems used by insurance organizations were both costly and appeared to be cumbersome to install and maintain. Other secure messaging systems were not free-standing as they were embedded in electronic health records systems or practice management systems. Given our more than five years of working with Jon Lybrook and his company, Tera Bear Consulting, also located in Colorado, we asked if it would be possible to develop our own secure messaging system. Jon had previously developed specialized applications such as complex, gatekeepered, web-based survey systems and other communication tools that exceed the security standards required of our clients and of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.
The WordSecure program was developed in 2007, and the company, WordSecure was formed in 2009 with us as minority investors. WordSecure Messaging has proven to be a fast and easy system to implement for our clients and for end-user employees and students to operate. Since it is web-based, it requires no special software installations or in-house IT support.
In summary, WordSecure Messaging has become a great solution for secure communication needs with regards to college health insurance and anything confidential. If you are a professional consultant or insurance broker with a need for security in transmitting messages and documents, WordSecure Messaging may also be the right choice for your organization.
Please feel free to contact HBC-SLBA to learn more about our insurance consulting practice and how we use WordSecure to provide our clients with the security they expect, and the encryption level required to help demonstrate HIPAA compliance.
