Secure Email

Secure email is regular email, retrofitted for general security. Often transmitted over Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) or Transport Layer Security (TLS), secure email is often coupled with various encryption technologies and security protections. It is considered to be complicated for users to set up and use. When it works, secure email can be exchanged without the worry that somebody else is eavesdropping on the conversation. Simply sending email thorugh a secure web portal such as GMail does not make it secure since once the email leaves the GMail server, it goes out in clear text.
